Constructed in 1869, this mansion was the focal point

of a 3,000 acre cotton plantation that stretched

as far as the eye could see in all directions.

The home remains virtually unaltered.

The histories of Georgia describe Kettle Creek as

one of the most important battles fought in the State

prior to the Civil War.

Founded in 1888

by Dr. Francis T. Willis in memory of his daughter

Robert Toombs, born in Wilkes County in 1810,

was a powerful and robust personality, one of the most

dramatic figures in Georgia history.

An 1857 house is home to the Washington Historical Museum. The musem boasts a large collection featuring Civil War relics, Indian artifacts, and a recreation of 19th century home life.
