DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Independence Day Where History Lives!\n\nThis Independence Day\, don't just come for the fireworks make a day of it in Historic Washington\, Georgia!\n\nDid you know that one of Georgia's earliest recorded Independence Day celebrations took place right here in Washington on July 4\, 1787? While many communities didn't immediately celebrate our nation's birthday after 1776\, Washington's citizens gathered to honor America's independence with patriotic toasts\, an elegant dinner\, and artillery salutes.  We are proud to continue that tradition of celebrating freedom together.\n\n  July 3rd Schedule of Events\n\n   Shop Local All Day\n\nOur downtown merchants will be open throughout the day. Browse unique boutiques\, antiques\, gifts\, home d cor\, and specialty shops while supporting local businesses.\n\n   Enjoy Lunch or Dinner\n\nChoose from our locally owned restaurants and discover why Washington is becoming a favorite destination for food lovers.\n\n   Explore Historic Washington\n\nStop by the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce to pick up a Historic Walking Tour Booklet\, then stroll through our beautiful downtown and discover the people\, places\, and stories that helped shape our nation's history.\n\n  1:00 PM   Visit the Mary Willis Library for family activities.\n\n  6:00 PM   Freedom Fireworks Festival begins on the Square with food vendors\, music\, children's activities\, community fun\, and more.\n\n  7:30 PM   Community gathering at First United Methodist Church.\n\n  Approximately 9:15 PM   Freedom Fireworks light up the skies over Historic Washington!\n\nBring your family\, invite your friends\, and spend the day enjoying everything Washington-Wilkes has to offer before ending the evening with one of our favorite traditions.\n\nCelebrate America's Birthday where history isn't just remembered it's still being made.
