The Washington-Wilkes calendar for the fall season is packed with signature events and festivals that will entertain and inform as you explore this beautiful small town and its history and heritage. Washington exudes southern charm and teems with history – all the way back to the American Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Over 100 antebellum homes and buildings line the streets and grace the lively historic downtown square filled with shops and yummy places to dine.
So, pull out your calendars and plan your next getaway adventure to Washington GA…where history lives.- Cruise-In on the Square – Saturday, September 13 on Washington Square, a day of cool classic automobiles, tractors and motorcycles and lots of food and great music by “Cruzin’ to the Oldies”.
- Mule Day and Southern Heritage Day – Saturday, October 11 at Callaway Historic Site. Spend a day in living history as reenactors and historians and makers in the Washington GA area demonstrate and talk about the farming life of our first settlers in the late 1700’s. The Mule Day festival is a favorite among Georgia living history events and historic farm demonstrations.
- Resthaven Revisited – Saturday, October 18. Join a “spirited” night tour of historic Resthaven Cemetery, where departed souls tell their stories of long ago Washington.
- I’d Rather be in Tignall festival – Saturday, November 8. Get ready for a fun-filled fall festival of arts and crafts, live music, lots of food, rides and activities for the kids!
- “Johnny Comes Marching Home”, at Callaway Historic Site - November 14-16, a tribute to soldiers returning home after the end of the Civil war and the beginning of reconstruction.
Cruise-In On The Square
There’s still time to enjoy fall outdoor activities around Washington-Wilkes. Go hiking around Kettle Creek Battlefield or bring your kayak for paddling along the Little River Water Trail or plan some Clarks Hill Lake camping and fishing ¾think warm days and cool, crisp nights under the stars.
