Revolutionary War DaysDescription
Help celebrate the 247th Anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Creek on the Square in Downtown Washington. Beginning at 9:50, the Georgia Society SAR Elijah Clarke Militia Honor Guard will present Musket Salutes and will raise the 1776 Colors on the Wilkes County Courthouse flagpole. From 9:50 until noon, experience living history at the Court Street Livery, followed at 10:10 with a gathering at the Revolutionary War monument to salute and honor the Heroes of the Hornet's Nest. At 10:30, the Color Guard and parade participants will gather behind the Courthouse for the assembly of the Parade. All are welcome to participate. The Parade will begin at 10:45 with two complete marches around the Square, ending at Fort Washington Park. At 11:15, re-enactors with black-powder muskets will present a portrayal of the Battle of Kettle Creek in Washingtion Park behind the Courthouse. At 12:00, the Georgia Society SAR Color Guard and others will present arms and fire a musket salute as the Revolutionary War Colors are lowered and our present-day National Colors are raised on the Courhouse Flagpole. at 2:30, there will be a Wreath Presentation at Kettle Creek Battlefield, War Hill Road.
